How to enable two-factor authentication
What is two-factor authentication?
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security by requiring two forms of verification:
- Something you know: Your password
- Something you have: Your phone or authenticator app
Even if someone steals your password, they can't access your account without the second factor.
How to enable 2FA
To enable two-factor authentication:
- Go to Settings > Security
- Click "Enable Two-Factor Authentication"
- Choose your method: Authenticator App (recommended) or SMS
- For authenticator app: Scan the QR code with your app
- Enter the 6-digit code from your app or SMS
- Save your backup codes in a secure location
- Confirm activation
Important: Store your backup codes safely. You'll need them if you lose access to your authentication method.
Recommended authenticator apps
We recommend these authenticator apps:
- Google Authenticator: Simple and reliable
- Authy: Cloud backup and multi-device sync
- Microsoft Authenticator: Works across Microsoft services
- 1Password: Password manager with built-in 2FA
Authenticator apps are more secure than SMS because they work offline and can't be intercepted.
